Using this website means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
2. Education, not medical advice
Everything on this site is nutrition education. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it does not replace the clinician who treats you. Never delay or stop treatment because of something you read here. In an emergency, contact your local emergency service.
We work hard to cite good sources and to say plainly where the evidence is weak. Even so, evidence changes; no page can know your own history, medicines or allergies.
3. What you may do with our work
Our mission is to get this information to people who need it. So, without asking us first, you may:
- Read everything, free, with no account and no paywall.
- Link to any page, anywhere, including from social media, forums and support groups.
- Print or save pages for yourself or your family.
- Print the food lists and give them to the people you care for, keeping the page name and the Root & Restore line on the sheet.
- Quote a short passage, up to about 150 words, if you name Root & Restore and link to the page you took it from.
- Translate a page for one person who needs it in their language.
4. What we ask you not to do
The written guides, their structure, our illustrations and the site's design are our copyright. Please do not:
- Republish a whole guide, or a large part of one, on another website, blog, app, book or newsletter.
- Present our work as your own, with or without small edits.
- Remove our name, our references or the safety warnings from anything you do share. The warnings are often the most important part of a page.
- Sell our material, or put it behind a paywall, a signup wall or an advertisement wall.
- Copy the site automatically at scale in a way that burdens the site, or republish a copy of it.
- Use our material to give personal medical advice as though it came from us.
If you are a clinician, a charity, a school or a support group and you want to do more than the previous section allows, ask us. We usually say yes, and we say it free.
5. Our name, logo and images
"Root & Restore," "Root & Restore Nutrition Education" (also written "Root and Restore"), our logo and our illustrations identify us and our work. Please do not use them for your own site, product, service or fundraising. Do not use them in any way that suggests we endorse you, wrote your material or are connected with you.
You may use our name when you credit a quotation, link to us or write about us.
6. Asking for permission
Write to hello@rootnrestore.org and tell us what you want to use, where it will appear and who your readers are. We answer permission requests as a matter of course, and we grant most of them at no charge, including to clinics, patient groups, schools and other nonprofits.
7. Messages you send us
If you send us a question, a correction or a story, you keep ownership of what you wrote. You give us permission to use it to answer you, to correct or improve the site and to quote it anonymously unless you ask us not to. We do not publish personal health details that identify you.
Corrections are welcome and we act on them. If a page here is wrong, telling us helps every reader who comes after you.
8. Copyright complaints and takedowns
If you believe we have infringed your copyright, write to hello@rootnrestore.org with the subject "Copyright". Please include: what the work is, where it appears on our site, proof that you own it or act for the owner, your contact details, a statement that you believe the use is not authorized and a statement that the information in your notice is accurate. We investigate promptly, and where a complaint is well founded we remove or correct the material.
If you find our work copied elsewhere, we would like to know. Send us the address of the copy at the same email. We check every report, and where a page has been republished without permission we ask for it to be taken down.
9. Links to other sites
We link to research papers, government health bodies and other organizations because they are useful. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for what they say or do. A link is not an endorsement of a product or a service.
10. No warranty
We publish this site in good faith and take real care over accuracy, sourcing and safety. Even so, the site is provided "as is." We do not promise that it will always be available, that every page is free of error or that any particular result will follow from reading it. To the fullest extent the law allows, Root & Restore is not liable for loss arising from use of this site. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, where the law does not allow that limit.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Where a dispute cannot be settled between us, it will be heard in the state or federal courts of California.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site changes. The version and date at the top of this page tell you when they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version.
